Two Seasons, One Yard
Y'all, my yard can't decide what season it is, and honestly? Neither can I.
Walk up my front steps right now and you'd swear fall's fully arrived — mums in every color, mini pumpkins tucked into the planters, a wreath on the door that took me a solid hour to get looking "effortless." But walk around back, and summer is holding on for dear life. Dahlias are still blooming their hearts out. The hydrangeas are just now fading into that dusty, antique pink I love almost more than their peak color. Even the sedum's still got butterflies on it.
So instead of picking a season, I decided to just show you both.
Fall officially made it to the front door. I thrifted the actual wreath for $5 and remade it with Dollar Tree stems and my dried hydrangeas.
Fall's Arrived on the Porch
Let's start at the front door, because that's where I went a little overboard this year.
Mums, pumpkins, and some very committed dog statues, all the way down.
I lined the whole walkway with mums — purple, yellow, red, white — and tucked mini pumpkins and gourds into every planter I could reach. There's even a stone dogs keeping watch over the whole display.
Tucked in and ready for the season.
My three dogs..immortalized.
The big solo pumpkin got its own little pedestal by the door, flanked by yellow and red mums, because a pumpkin deserves a moment.
Every pumpkin deserves a little pedestal.
Summer's Not Done With Us Yet
Look at the beds beside the walkway, and it's a different story entirely.
Dahlias still showing off like it's July while the hydrangea bush is this dusty pink color which might be my favorite stage of the whole year.
These dahlias have been an absolute showstopper all season, and they are not ready to quit. Deep magenta, still pushing out new blooms like they didn't get the September memo and my panicle hydrangea is doing that thing I love — fading from bright white-green into this soft, dusty pink that almost looks more beautiful than when it first bloomed.
The skippers never got the "it's fall" memo either.
And the sedum? Still covered in skippers. Zero interest in fall whatsoever.
Ferns, hydrangea, dahlias, and a maple just starting to blush with fall pumpkins in the planters- two seasons sharing one corner.
Here's the whole corner together — ferns still hanging strong, hydrangea and dahlias tangled up with the Japanese maple just starting to blush red at the edges, and pumpkins in the planter. Two seasons, one little patch of yard, both refusing to give an inch.
Right outside my front door: fall settling in on the porch while summer refuses to let go in the beds.
Feeders still out, flowers still going. No rush here.
Even my hummingbird feeders are still out, tucked right in with the dahlias — because why rush it?
What's Next
A little piece of this yard, getting ready to bring joy to family and friends.
These three little guys are cuttings from Sheila I'm getting ready to pass along to family and friends. They got a little sunburned yesterday, so they get the shady spot in the corner
So that's where things stand: one foot in fall, one foot refusing to leave summer behind. If your yard's doing the same confused thing right now, you're in good company.
I cant wait for Christmas!!!
